LEE, Jesse; a House Chaplain; born in Prince George County, Va., March 12, 1758; entered ministry of Methodist Church, N.C., 1779; ordained in the Methodist Church in New York, N.Y., 1790; chaplain, Virginia Militia, 1780; member, Salisbury Circuit, N.C., 1784; member, Baltimore Circuit, Md., 1787; member, Stamford Conn. Circuit, 1789; assistant to Bishop Francis Ashbury, 1796; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives for the Eleventh and Thirteenth Congresses (May 27, 1809–March 3, 1811; November 6, 1812–April 18, 1814); elected Chaplain of the United States Senate, 1814–1816; died on September 12, 1816, in Hillsborough, Md.
