GUTHRIE, Benjamin J., a Sergeant at Arms and Clerk from Maryland; born in Salisbury, Wicomico County, Md., 1923; attended Maryland State Teachers College, Salisbury, Md., 1939–1942; United States Army Signal Corps, 1942–1946; staff, U.S. Government Printing Office, 1946–1957; staff, Office of the Clerk, United States House of Representatives, 1957–1980; appointed Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives for the Ninety-sixth Congress and elected Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives for the Ninety-seventh Congress (February 28, 1980–January 3, 1983); elected Clerk of the United States House of Representatives for the Ninety-eighth Congress and for the succeeding Congress (January 3, 1983–January 6, 1987).
