DAILY, William Mitchell; a House Chaplain; born in Coshocton, Coshocton County, Ohio, in 1812; A.M., Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., 1836; D.D., Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., 1851; LL.D., University of Louisville, Louisville, Ky.; ordained a deacon and an elder in the Methodist Church in 1835; minister, Bloomington, Ind., 1835–1838; professor, St. Charles College, St. Charles, Mo., 1838–1840; agent, Missouri general conference, St. Louis, Mo., 1838; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives for the Twenty-eighth Congress (December 4, 1844–March 3, 1845); agent, Indiana Asbury (now DePauw) University, Greencastle, Ind., 1845; member, Indiana general conference, 1852; president, Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., 1853–1859; hospital chaplain, St. Louis, Mo., 1862–1865; member, Louisiana general conference, 1869–1877; died on February 5, 1877, in New Orleans, La.; interred in Springdale Cemetery, Madison, Ind.
