BLAIR, Samuel; a House Chaplain; born in Fagg’s Manor, Chester County, Pa., 1741; graduated from College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), Princeton, N.J., 1760; D.D., University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa., 1790; licensed to preach by the presbytery of Newcastle, Pa., 1764; tutor, College of New Jersey (now Princeton University), Princeton, N.J., 1761–1764; principal founder, First Presbyterian Church, Germantown, Pa., 1811; pastor, Old South Church, Boston, Mass., 1766–1769; elected Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives for the First and for the succeeding Congress (December 10, 1790–May 8, 1792); died on September 24, 1818, in Germantown, Pa.
