Historical Data

The following lists were developed to answer reference questions often posed by Member offices, researchers, and the general public. One hundred and one of the 297 women who have served in Congress are current Members—81 in the House and 20 in the Senate. In total, there have been 263 women Members of the House of Representatives and 44 Senators. Ten women have served in both chambers.
